National Pina Colada Day is a day to enjoy a delicious frozen concoction that will have you feeling as though you are in a tropical paradise. There are several people who have claimed to have created the original Pina Colada. One of the stories is that Ramon "Monchito" Marrero created the Pina Colada on August 15, 1954 while working at the Caribe Hilton’s Beachcomber Bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Pina Colada has been the official beverage of Puerto Rico since 1978.^[1]

A Pina Colada is made with rum, coconut cream, and pineapple juice, typically served blended or shaken and poured over ice. Celebrate this day by perfecting your Pina Colada recipe and drinking plenty of them outdoors in the sun.
