About the Holiday

National Aviation Day is a day that celebrates one of the most amazing engineering inventions created, human flight. Orville Wright and his brother, Wilbur created the first successful airplane and in 1903, Orville piloted the first successful flight that took him 120 foot for 12 seconds. August 19 is Orville's birthday and each year this day is set aside to celebrate what they did for aviation and to celebrate human flight.
