About the Holiday

International Civil Aviation Day is observed to raise awareness on the importance of international civil aviation and the necessary role of the organizations and systems that combine together to coordinate and regulate international air traffic and transportation.

This holiday was started by International Civil Aviation Organization in 1994 to mark the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation which occurred on December 7th, 1944. In 1996, the United Nations officially recognized this as an international holiday.
