Ferris Wheel Day honors the birthday of the creator of the Ferris Wheel, George Washington Gale Ferris Jr., an American engineer born on this day in 1859 in Galesburg, Illinois. The Ferris Wheel made its debut in 1893 at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago. It was a landmark at the fair. Some of the tallest or more famous ferris wheels are:
