Roller Coaster Day is the anniversary of the day the vertical loop roller coaster was patented. The origin of the roller coaster started in Russia in the 1600's as giant ice slides. Over the centuries the designs of the roller coaster have changed to become what we are familiar with today. Roller coasters are the main attractions at many of today's theme parks.
