About the Holiday

Rock n' Roll Day is a day to commemorate this popular genre of music, which originated during the late 1940s and the early 1950s, and became extremely popular in the 1960s. Alan Freed, a well-known disc jockey was commonly referred to as the "father of rock and roll.” He was given this title because he was the first to coin the phrase,” rock and roll” on public radio.[1] Many different types of Rock n' Roll music are still going strong today. So celebrate today by getting out those old records, 8-tracks, cassette tapes, CD's or iPod and enjoy your favorite Rock n' Roll tunes.
