National Cafe au Lait Day celebrates this delicious beverage that is made with coffee and milk or half-and-half. Cafe au Lait is a French word meaning coffee with milk. A typical ratio is 1:1 or 1:2 dark roast coffee to milk and is sometimes accompanied with sugar, chocolate, nutmeg, honey, cinnamon, chicory, or vanilla. Cafe au Lait has different names depending on the country. For example; Brazil and Portugal: Cafe com Leite, Italy: Caffé Latte, Germany: Milchkaffee, Spain: Cafe con Leche, Poland: Kawa Biala, and in Netherlands: Koffie Verkeerd.
