About the Holiday
Belly Laugh Day was created by Elaine Helle (a Certified Laughter Yoga Teacher) in 2005 to encourage people to laugh even if they don't feel like it. This is great advice as laughing is actually healthy and good for you as Gaiam Life's article 7 Health Benefits of Laughter explains. Additionally, studies have shown that even forced laughter and/or smiles (doing it even when you're not in the mood), does indeed improve your mood.
