About the Holiday

We celebrate and honor American veterans, both living and dead, from all wars on Veterans Day and show our appreciation for their sacrifices. Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11th unless it falls on a weekend and then it is often nationally celebrated the Friday before or Monday after. This holiday was originally called Armistice Day since the 11th hour on the 11th day in the 11th month in 1918 which marked the end of World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany.
