About the Holiday
Navy Day a day to salute all the men and women in the Navy that help to protect our country. The first Navy Day was celebrated on October 27th, 1922. This date was chosen because it was the birthday of President Theodore Roosevelt, who was an avid supporter of the Navy. There was a controversy back in the 1970's that the date of Navy Day should be changed to October 13th, since that is the birthday of the U.S Continental Navy, but the United States still primarily recognized on October 27th.
