About the Holiday

National Senior Fitness Day was created to raise awareness of the benefits of regular exercise in older adults and the importance of staying fit later in life. Staying fit has physical and mental benefits. Many communities have health and wellness centers for seniors. Ideal exercise for seniors include low impact exercises, swimming, and even playing some Wii sports games. Regular exercise can help prevent bone loss, treat and prevent osteoporosis, as well as increases muscle strength, balance and coordination.
