About the Holiday

Ahoy, mateys! All over ye seven seas, 'tis day, people be shoutin' like band 'o pirates. Who would've known that a holiday like 'tis would spread internationally? This just for fun holiday was created by John Baur and Mark Summers in 1995, with this particular date being of significance to one of ye creators, as it is his ex-wife's birthday. It was hence celebrated for several years amongst their close mateys until 2002, when it was picked up by a nationally syndicated newspaper column and it spread internationally. Needless to say, Talk Like a Pirate Day was born 'n continues on 'tis pillage all over the world.
