About the Holiday

Use Your Common Sense Day was created by famous career mentor and motivational speaker Bud Bilanich. He picked November 4 because it's the birthday of the great American humorist, actor, and cowboy Will Rogers who was born on this day in 1879. Will coined the phrase "common sense ain’t that common".

Merriam-Webster.com defines common sense as "the ability to think and behave in a reasonable way and to make good decisions". Common sense should be used by everyone every day in all aspects of life including finances, career, relationships, health, and politics. In their article titled "Common Sense Is Neither Common nor Sense" PsychologyToday.com says "People with common sense are seen as reasonable, down to earth, reliable, and practical." The full article may be found here.
