About the Holiday

United Nations Day, or UN Day, celebrates the organization dedicated to world peace and the betterment of humanity through programs for world hunger to environment and health issues. Almost all of the countries in the world are members of this organization. United Nations Day is held on the anniversary of the ratification of the UN Charter on October 24th, 1945. It was declared a holiday in 1947 by the United Nations General Assembly. A further resolution in 1971 established United Nations Day as an International holiday and encouraged recognition by all member countries.
