About the Holiday

Underdog Day pays tribute to those who've always played 2nd fiddle to the hero -- Dr. Watson to Sherlock Holmes, Robin to Batman, and so on. It also honors the underdog who was never expected to win, but somehow finds a way. On this day, we recognize all the heroes' helpers and those who tune out the naysayers and go on to do great things.

This holiday was started in 1976 by Peter Moeller who was known as the Chief Underdog at his place of employment, General Motors. He started the holiday to salute hard workers.^[1]
