About the Holiday
Foursquare Day (or 4sqDay) is a social media and math holiday that was first observed in 2010 after the social media site Foursquare.com declared the holiday on April 16th in response to a grass roots campaign. The 4/16 date was chosen because four squared equals 16 and a Tampa businessman was looking to promote his business by having people check-in to his optometry business on the 4th month and 16th day.[1]
