About the Holiday

World Farm Animals Day or WFAD was created to call attention to the more than 65 million cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, lambs and other farm animals that are slaughtered each year.

Started in 1983, World Farm Animals Day takes place on October 2nd which honors the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi who was an outspoken advocate of non-violence towards animals. The official holiday and can be found here.
