About the Holiday
Gingerbread Day is an effort to bring attention to gingerbread at some other time of year than Christmas. Gingerbread has been around since medieval times but not in the form we think of today. Gingerbread was originally a baked block of honey with flour, ginger and other spices. The gingerbread was elaborately decorated and a popular gift. In the fifteenth century gingerbread was made with treacle and became the cake we are familiar with today.
