The # at the beginning of a line will number the line. It will number consecutively until another command is entered.

The * at the beginning of a line will put a bullet. Adding *'s will indent further in the page.

You can also mix * and # to indent and number.

However, if you want to link to a page but you want to use other wording, you can do this...

and it would appear as:

To utilize the footnote-like reference syntax, wrap your footnote text in ref tags.

In order to generate the footnote list you need to include the references tag.
