About the Holiday

Similar to Earth Day, World Environment Day (WED) is a day to recognize the need for us to adopt a more earth-friendly lifestyle. Reducing waste, pollution, energy consumption as well as protecting and re-establishing Earth's vast diversity of life are promoted through celebrating this holiday.

While Earth Day was established to promote environmentalism in the United States, in 1972 World Environmental Day was established by the United Nations to do the same throughout the world.^[1]
