About the Holiday
National Night Out Day is an event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. The annual campaign, which falls annually on the first Tuesday in August, involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups and businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials in 15,000 communities in the US, US territories, Canadian cities and US military bases worldwide.
In addition to the shining of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, the day is celebrated with block parties, cookouts, parades, contests and more in an effort to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness. See this link for more information.
