Gold Star Mother's Day is a day that we recognize and honor mothers that lost their son or daughter while serving our country in the United States Armed Forces. The gold star custom is derived from when parents put flags in their window when their son or daughter is in the military. A blue star denotes they are alive and a gold star symbolizes that they died during duty. A gold star is typically seen on a service flag or as a pin.
