About the Holiday

Today is Emma M. Nutt Day a day set aside to honor a true pioneer, the first woman telephone operator in America. Emma was hired by the Boston Telephone Dispatch on September 1, 1878 and worked there for 33 years. Emma and other female telephone operators helped to open doors for women that wanted to work outside the home.
